Named after a children's book of the same name, Flub A Dub Chub's is a cool subterranean hot dog shack that won Vienna Beef's 2023 Hot Dog of the Year award. There's only one of those, and this is it.

Go down the steps at 3201 N. Broadway and you will find Flub's "Hot Dog and Burger Emporium" which has been family-owned and operated since January 2008. They serve a spot-on Chicago dog as well as a pulled pork and bacon dog, a Mike Ditka spicy Polish, a Ruben dog, a Coney Island and all sorts of other dogs too. And for you vegans fear not, there's a Chicago-style soy dog.

All the dogs come with a side and you can choose from fry-tastic french fries, tots, or if you are starting to feel guilty, a salad. Our Chicago-style came with bright green relish, a pickle spear AND a slice of cucumber and believe me when I tell you we could taste all three individually. Their buns are from Alpha Baking and they have perfect fluffiness while maintaining critical hull integrity to stand up to the myriad of fresh ingredients without falling apart.

The Vienna beef wieners are "six to one" which means they are bigger than the average, six to a pound instead of eight (or more) to a pound commonly served by many other places. And you can ask for it char-grilled if you want to crank it up one more notch. Flub's burgers are equally raved about, and if you need a personal testimonial about their shakes you've got one right here. The menu rocks pretty hard and needs to be experienced in person, it's really extensive and everything coming out looked fantastic.

When we were there we spoke to Greg who told us that a member of his family is almost always on duty making sure the quality and service remains high. You could really tell they have a lot of pride in their product. When you're there you also feel a certain community vibe, possibly due to the dense neighborhood and the active participation of the guests. You can swap a book in their book exchange, or try your hand at sausage-themed artwork and get your creation hung on the walls! But hurry, the place is almost totally covered in Flubby fan-fiction and when the ceiling is full there may be no more room for you. And watch out; if you're a full-grown adult who puts ketchup on a hot dog you might find yourself posted to the Wall of Shame.

So, in short, you've found it. A fantastic "destination dog" in a great location with character, a vibe and bragging rights. Make it happ'n, capp'n - you will NOT be disappointed!
